Anime Traps That Will Question Your Sexuality!
20. Kurapika (Hunter X Hunter)
Kurapika has all the necessary features of a girl. A blonde hair with blue eyes that can turn scarlet when he is angry along with a petite feminine body structure, Kurapika is one of the most popular anime traps. Kurapika differs from other traps in the sense that the characters within Hunter X Hunter seem to be aware that he is a boy. It is the fans that are left confused and baffled by Kurapika. “Is Kurapika a boy or a girl?” has been the question that has been asked across various forums such as Quora, Reddit, and several others. Although all evidence points towards Kurapika as a boy, some fans are still wondering if the manga will eventually reveal Kurapika as a girl. That’s how much Kurapika drives the fans crazy. Togashi, the creator of Hunter X Hunter is a troll who loves to confuse his audience. Hunter X Hunter in all its brilliance is filled with characters such as Kurapika.
19. Haku (Naruto)
When Naruto first sees Haku, one of the first things he witnesses is that Haku is even more beautiful than Sakura. Haku himself states that he has often been confused as a girl in the past. Dressed in a beautiful kimono with long hair tied in a bundle, Haku confuses both characters in Naruto and fans equally. His gentle disposition and petite body frame do well to add up to his pretty face and although he was an assassin, his refusal to mortally wound Sasuke implies that he possesses a soft heart as well. Haku is aware of his feminine look and often uses it to mask his identity as a ruthless killer. His death is one of the most beautiful and heart-breaking scenes in all anime.
18. Gasper Vladi (High School DxD)
Gasper Vladi is a young male vampire who likes to cross-dress. Issei, the main character notices his resemblances to Asia and initially get excited because of his perverse nature. When Rias reveals Gasper’s gender, Issei is extremely shocked as the first victim of the Gasper trap. However, even though Gasper is quite the introvert, he possesses the ability to manipulate time which makes him extremely dangerous as well as valuable to the Gremory household.
17. Ruka Urushibara (Stein’s Gate)
Ruka Urushibara is a character from Stein’s Gate where we as an audience get to see the emotional trauma behind those we deem as anime traps. Normal tropes of anime traps are meant to generate humor as well as baffle fans. The tale of Ruka is, however, a different tale, that of a sad one. Although it is only fiction, biology really messes things up in Ruka by designating his gender as a male. Ruka is a girl, except he is not. One does not normally find in anime where a character is emotionally traumatized by his desire to be the opposite sex. His desperate love for Okabe and Okabe’s heterosexuality adds much more tragedy to his story. Using Okabe’s time machine, he is able to change his gender in the alternate timeline. As a girl, he makes the ultimate sacrifice for Okabe, his feminine gender so that Okabe can recreate the original timeline to save Mayuri. Ruka’s story is one of sacrifice and irreparable regret, one that has no cure and one that will leave the audience in sorrow for his cruel fate.
16. Yuu Kashima (Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun)
Yuu Kashima is a reverse trap, the first of our list. Although Yuu is a girl, she gives out a strong disposition of a pretty boy which earns her the title as the School’s Prince. Since he is a little boy, Chihiro is a victim of constant bullying because of his weak frame which disabled him from physical acts deemed necessary of a boy. Chihiro eventually decides to escape from his cruel fate by cross-dressing and starts masquerading as a girl. Chihiro’s costume manages to fool almost every one of his gender. After being dragged into the Mutual Killing Game, Chihiro decides to confide his secret to Mondo who ends up killing him in a fit of rage surprise.
14. Pico (Boku No Pico)

Despite her manlike appearance, she is still quite beautiful with short hair, thin frame, and serious blue eyes.
11. Neferpitou (Hunter X Hunter)
We told you that Master Togashi likes setting traps. Here is another such case that is worth mentioning. Neferpitou is the Royal Guard of Meruem during the Chimera Ant Arc. Neferpitou possesses the feature of a catgirl such as cat ears, tiger-like paws and, a long tail. It is difficult to determine Neferpitou’s gender although we will assume it as a female, because of her slender waist and other girlish features. Neferpitou is seen as a waifu by many fans, which leaves them crazy by the theory that Neferpitou might actually be male. The manga seems to suggest that Royal Guards or Chimera Ant including Neferpitou in general, are genderless but to appease the fans, we will continue to believe that Neferpitou is female, so that she may continue to serve her role as a waifu. If we are lucky, the future manga will not contradict our hypothesis but with Togashi, nothing is certain. If only he is not such a troll, sigh….
